Writing a Geography Paper - Two Topics to ConsiderIn a class on geography it is common to ask students to take a paper on one topic of study and then another on another. If the class is the first semester, students can choose to write about one topic or the other. The other topic can be extremely exciting but students tend to want to write on the same topic. This is because they feel that they should have knowledge on all subjects and in any subject.Well, you can teach them differently. Give each student one topic to write about and see which one gets the most responses. For example, if a class is taught on climate change and global warming, you could write about the difference between 'climate'climate change.' Each area of study can also have an area that is slightly different. For example, a second semester class would talk about climate change in Alaska.Finally, I want to add that you can ask each student to write about just one topic. You could ask students to write about one top ic of their interest. Students will usually say no to this question. If you make sure that each student has a topic to write about and you allow each student to write about that topic, you will always end up with one student writing about more than one topic.Ask each student to write on one of the topics of the year and you will usually get different topics from students. One will say they want to do research about food, and another will say they want to find out what trends are happening in the seafood industry. They both want to know the trends. You could give them the same topic, and they will still have different topics.As soon as the two topics are chosen and prepared by the teachers, give them a week or two to prepare for the topic. Make sure that each topic has enough time to write a very good geography paper. Only give the students a few days to go through their topics and decide what topic will be the best one.The different topics should include; students should be able to write about each topic fairly easily. It is not necessary that they each write about every topic or anything else. What is important is that each student has some knowledge about one topic. That knowledge should help the student to answer questions and make graphs and figures.Most teachers will use the spaced repetition technique to make sure that they reinforce the information in the class. They will print the students' papers and use different colored pens to draw what the student knows about that topic. This will help them remember what they have learned in class. I used to do this in school and it was a very effective way to help students remember what they knew. It is also a great way to help students develop good writing habits.The two topics in a geography paper should be related to one another. They should not appear to be unrelated. It is also a good idea to have a little time to prepare the paper before the day of the paper.
